Family is the basic organization of the whole universe.
Looking back to other creatures than human beings; we all know that any creature cannot live alone. Any of YOU who have a pet knows that it soon needs to find its mate and start building a family otherwise it will eventually die.
Building a family and being a member of a family has long been done as part of the built in need to belong somewhere. It is the individual's need for security and safety, the need for support, the need for power, the need for status, self esteem, affiliation, and goal achieving.
When people fail to belong to a family or enjoy the real feelings associated with belonging to a family, they tend to search for other alternatives, like belonging to a group of friends, a work group, club, or an organization.
All creatures have this built in system of needing to belong; and all strive on the continuity of their own kind.
This built in system is what keeps the kind of each creature. Just imagine if any type of creature has decided to stop making a family, some years later this creature is history.
For us; human beings, we have a more complicated story. Our mind interferes with what we were naturally born or created to do.
Our mind; the greatest gift of all, with all its power (that is not yet totally revealed by science), storage capacity, ability to analyze, enthusiasm for experimenting new trials and new discoveries, new challenges and new experiences, sometimes fail to simply help us lead a happy life with our family.
Are these sporadic cases? Statistics say no.

Over the years we lose some ingredients of the recipes to having a happy family.Reasons may include that we took such a process for granted, and we are not giving it the same importance, attention and effort as we do to our careers.
Desire for an intimate relation with a soul mate? Need to be fulfilled emotionally? Desire for having Children? Freedom in applying our own thoughts and concepts in our new families that we see our parents failed to use, in search for happiness?Need to keep belong to our group of friends who are all now married and have children and this is our only way to stay compatible with them? Fear of aging and ending up alone when everybody else is busy with their lives and families? Need to share the living expenses? Need someone to take care of my home. children, parents, home chores? Society pressure that believes this is the norm of life and doing otherwise makes you look weird? If factors that drive us to build a family are stronger than our fears or our resistance to change a state that we know with a state that we don't know, then we turn out to make a family.
